Live Sushi Bar Ratings and Reviews
The sashimi was amazing. Tempura light and crispy. A few dishes were missed - the short rib appetizer was very fatty. Not my favorite. But overall a fun place to try things and good service. Up and coming neighborhood so there was parking on a Friday at 8:30!! Huge plus.
Overall, my friend and I really enjoyed Live Sushi. I would definitely go back and recommend to friends and family. They were friendly and accommodated us (earlier in the day I made a reservation via OpenTable, but when we arrived there was no reservation under my name via OpenTable). How was my reservation on OpenTable missed? This was the first time this happened to me. How can I ensure this will not happen with future reservations? I really like using OpenTable for recommendations and to see what's new. Thank you!
The double Hamachi Roll was deliciously fresh. Tripled down on Hamachi and ordered the Kama, also. It was well-seasoned and cooked just right. Stay away from the tempura. The batter was soggy and lacked flavor. But it's not called "Live Tempura", now is it!? I'd definitely return and stick to the sushi and sashimi. Service was meh. We were the second party to walk in at lunch so it was not busy yet--not sure why servers was inattentive. Servers were very nice, but didn't fill our tea cups, forgot our miso soup and didn't bring a salad we ordered. I'd still go back!
We chose Live Sushi based on the numerous reviews on Yelp and Opentable. We were not disappointed! There was a wide variety of dishes, but we only had sushi. The fish was very fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place! It is VERY loud though, so be ready for that. The service was very rushed as well, but the food was great.
I've been going to Live Sushi for years. I have never been disappointed with their food or their service. On busy nights, it could get quite loud because of the small venue. But, there is a lot of energy that you can feed on when it is busy. Service is great. The staff always has a smile and more than willing to help you with your meal. Overall, you need to try this spot.
Great sushi! We loved the assorted sashimi and not so typical appetizer options. My boyfriend who is experienced in eating sushi from all over (even Japan) said this was some of the best sushi he's had in the US! We're so excited because we live right up the hill- so happy we finally tried this place!
Looking in yelp and Open TableLive Sushi received good/great reviews with a few bad reviews in between.
The place is a dive. Upon Sebring seated they didn't have plates or forks Because they were being washed.
The food was just ok. The roll everyone talked about the SF?? Roll was the best one we had there but even that was mediocre. The most basic of basic the edamami were even tasteless as was the miso cod.
I would not recommend this place.
I had a table reserved for a group of former colleagues during lunch for a special occasion. Location is convenient, a lot of parking spots nearby as well as close to bus stop. The service is generally decent, depending on which waitress/waiter you get. The first waitress for our table wasn't really attentive and seemed impatient, but the second one was great. That was the only comment I had. Overall, great food, ambiance, and decent service. I wasn't disappointed.
For starters we were greeted warmly by the lovely hostess and was seated promptly to a very nice table overlooking the bustling sushi bar- with three sushi chefs. I loved the colorful Fresh Menu creatively displayed on a chalkboard . The decor is tastefully decorated shabby chic which gives a real casual feel that validates you're dining in one of the best of the best Japanese cuisine restaurants in SF.
We ordered Asahi beer - and although it s Winter I'm always down for an ice cold beer. The best part? We were served our beer in chilled glasses!! So nice! by our friendly waitress whom was very attentive throughout our dining experience , that I loved!
The Ahi poke was oh so fresh- next best poke from HAWAII . I am coming back - Live Sushi is da bomb! Parking is off street where there's plenty of spaces available. Compai🍻🍣!
Food was good, and the menu had some interesting twists. Fresh seafood from Japan was very good. However, the noise level was off the hook, where my ears hurt a little bit by the end of the meal. Servers were nice, with the exception of one woman who was a little rough with placing and taking away the dishes, and even her demeanor was a little rough - she could have used more training, and learn to serve with a little more grace; considering that the menu is not inexpensive, and they charge 18% when there are six or more in the party. It's one of my pet peeves when I go to 5 star restaurants with impeccable service, and the set service charge is 17% or 18%, and I go to a restaurant that has two or three star service, but expects just as much tip because your party is a little larger. Six people are not even a large party, in my opinion.
Based on the reviews I had read, I expected a truly excellent experience. We had been searching for a really good sushi restaurant for a long time. This is not it. Aside from excellent service and a very good salmon belly sashimi, the meal was mediocre. The restaurant ambiance is not what I would expect to find in a Japanese restaurant. I can't say that the restaurant wasn't clean, but it didn't feel clean to us and it is somewhat shabby in appearance. The fish in several sushi dishes were watery. At first I thought it was the rice, but my wife assured me it was the fish. The bar b que eel was barely warm. While I can't complain about the tastes of the dishes, except for the salmon something seemed off on all the others. Bottom line is I cannot understand why people think this place is good.
